Description: I remember i was in the line to get in and we could see in through the window to office rooms and there were police officers talking to men in suits (lawyers) having a good old discussion. It was fairly early and the party was not shut down so the lawyers must have made their point. This is in my TOP 5 parties of all time, the hype of the mega watts sound system, the controversy of the competing parties on the same weekend and the media coverage (and subsequent shutdowns), the superb, authentic warehouse location, the supreme sound and lighting production (including that rebound at the back of the space), the stellar music (RENEGADE LEGION – THE WEEPING WASTE, ooooh yeah!!!!), complete with the perfect Paul Holden anthems finale (and the end of an era, before the next party Mayday
would turn the morning on its head with Vegas playing the hardcore closer). Just a perfect party! I was stuffed by the end of this, and just wasn’t ready for an Easter Monday public holiday gathering eating chocolate with the relatives being quizzed on all the rage parties they’d seen discussed heavily on the news across the weekend.

Itch-e and Scratch-e’s set went off, as did Mach V’s! I was on a high this night, I remember a friend and I doing somersaults down the ABC stairs and it felt good. JLT : It was a cosy and stylish venue. Seemed like a small community hall or club with a bar. Ravers were doing whatever they pleased on couches that were setup in a semi-circle around the dance floor. Everyone enjoyed this night. There was such a tight knit vibe, the tunes were great and the goodies and production
were quality. There would have been about 300 Ravers max. I’m playing it down because this was one of those special underground party’s that you don’t like to hear you missed, but what a really amazing rave!

Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/yuBa5
Video: Official Colossus Video (Part 1, Part 2)
Description: What a party. Seemed so commercial at the time, and now we have parties the likes of Field Day. Question: Is it true that the proceeds taken on the night were lost/stolen? Amazing lighting rig on the main hall, fantastic colour lazer in the smaller second hall. JLT
Ten thousand people attended. The setup was amazing. Drew Muirhead (DMC) went to crazy efforts to put this party on. There were over a hundred and ten GoldenScan Mk 2′s and countless Miniscans shipped to Australia as well as three or four killer 10 watt full-colour lasers that all went into making this huge pyramid stage out of lights! The production dwarfed anything anyone had experienced before. There were many new comers to make up the large crowd and I found most to be extended friends of the many familiar faces I knew. Its scale was just Colossal! The second room was a good place to come back down to earth, as the gravity of the production, in the main room was like looking into the heavens. The DJ’s played all the current rave hits of the time; the production quality was second to none. The vibe was a little lacking due to so many new comers that made up the large crowd. But holy PLUR, what a party!

Jurassic Rave
Saturday, 27 August 1994
Production: Mach V
Venue: HardCore Café, behind the Agincourt Hotel, Harris St Broadway

Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/yMv6d
Description: JLT : This was such a good rave, back to back DJ sets worked really well, great music, fantastic people, a little lacking on production value as the Hard Core Café looked quite bare. There was a 30ft blow up T Rex dinosaur. But the cash was spent on Lenny Dee, and.. as for his DJ set, he can certainly MAKE IT F#CK’N LOUDER!!!

Description: Outdoor venue held on Uni grounds, it was held on a Friday night so we left Sydney around 8pm and made it around 2 hours later. Was a great night I remember bumping into a lot of straight Uni students that night who happened to wander into the party not knowing anything about the rave scene, in the morning I saw full on weird trippers, one dressed himself by pulling down a curtain from the window and was wearing it like a nappy, he had white paint all over himeslf! He ended up chasing me and my girlfriend around…pretty funny shit.

Full Video Download: Pleasuredome '94 Official Video
Description: The warehouse was so big they had to block half of it with the stage. EVEN THEN 3500 ravers didn’t come close to filling it. Those podiums (like the round dishes that you see cable guys use) were awesome. Also the Punos Spider chill out was cool. JLT : This was a 10/10 party. The vibe at PleasureDome was off the charts, production was great and DJ Slipmatt’s set after DJ Angus was unbelievable as was Infusion’s act. Everything was perfect, thank you Buck Rogers, you know who you are! Favourite rave of all time! The setup was amazing, the chill out gave you rushes when you saw giant spiders hanging everywhere with dark materials draped from the ceiling and Ravers chilled out everywhere on bean bags. The PleasureDome was a long warehouse with a flat smooth floor with lots of dance space and podiums made out of large wooden cable reels. The roof was decked out with really potent lighting and the music was banging loud all night/morning long!

Description: Inside the building were two other arenas, one playing garage and house and downstairs a room for the not so well know names to play as they wished. Absolutely banging all night. JLT : My Fantazia review is the opposite of the official sites's. Being billed as a Fantazia party everyone had high expectations and the night started off well. Then, when Sven Vath got on the decks his trance set turned out complete shite. He kept playing for hours, and hours. Daylight broke and everyone was wondering when Paul Holden was going to come on.

Venue: Fitness Gym, Parramatta Road Granville
DJs: Colin Dale (UK) Nik Fish, Vagas, Crisis, Ming, Warlock, Insomniak. Spellbound, Pee Wee, Vic, Mavrik, Asterix, Reaver, Herb, Ballistic, Pain Game LIVE
Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/OCslQ
Description: JLT : The party was arranged with the DJ at the entrance to the room, and made it a different experience walking straight into the action. There was a full colour laser and it was the first time we were shown full-colour 3D graphics on a silk screen. That far back in history these were truly amazing 3D laser graphics with quality lighting and sound to match. The international DJ Colin Dale did a wicked set, as did DJ Insomniak, and our local DJs. So many good things happened this night, I remember Sam the Ticket Man coming around with platters of fruit in the morning. Bliss! Great crowd that night, friends for life! Also this was the night that 3 or 4 Bogans rocked up driving drunk, got out and ran after this guy outside trying to stab him. A crowd of 100 Ravers out the front tell them to piss off. Then someone threw their water bottle at them and they pissed off. Ravers 1, Bogans 0.

Description: This was one of the best raves I have been to. There were 2 full colour lasers that were really great, and a couple of green and red lasers. It attracted a reasonable crowd of people, but is was not crowded. Amazingly I actually went to this rave by sheer fluke. I had previously one 2dayFM’s top 30 CD’s and I went to the offices of 2DayFM to pick them up. They had a whole roll of tickets that they were giving away, so I grabbed a few. And what do you know… I ended up in the rave scene! The music played was a lot of Hi-Nrg, and Happy Hard and there was a great atmosphere amongst the ravers. It was pumping hard by around 10pm!! The usual DJ’s were there including Nik Fish, Spellbound, Pee Wee etc. The highlight of the night was when DJ Vagas came on and did a wicked set of Hi-Nrg tunes. They were not stingy on the smoke machines either, with the whole night in a misty dancefloor. Congrats to the organisers, as this was one great party.

Description: JLT : From a top view of the open air room, the staging was a 3 mtr wide plus (+) shape scaffholding podium. It was 2 mtrs high so people could walk under it and it split the Hard Core Cafe into 4 area’s. Two area’s had lights and the other two had lasers. It was an interesting layout, remember the scaffholding podium shaking all night long to the beat! Mindbending!

Description: catch Phrase – A trip to Uranus. Police came and shut it down around 2am, but not before they were locked out, ravers were locked in, and the sound system cranked! Then, “as raving usual” I remember going on this theme park ride inside the warehouse; it was a single seat human gyroscope that euphorically rocked my senses. After months of raving it really helped fix my back. And then; there were these crazy clowns from outer space! That’s when the riot squad finally came in, it was all smoky with lights and lasers and they didn’t know what to do at first. Eventually they realized where the DJ was and asked him to turn the music off. Ravers were scrambling to get out the door by this time… Everyone got tipped off to head to Sydney Park. We jammed to tunes from some guys car speaker system. Remember how his car battery went flat at dawn and some guys got him started again with jumpers. Then another car started cranking the tunes. Even though Space Cadet got closed, my friends and I got to meet a lot of Ravers that night in the park. Good old times!

Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/HzPiq
Description: Steel St or Woorang St Milperra? JLT : Ultra Sonic made the place explode!!! Remember the sweat dripping from the ceiling and the crowd screaming “do you love your hardcore”! We completely messed up our way of getting there. I think we got off 3 train stations early, anyway after a long walk (via macca’s) we eventually got there. It was an industrial zone and the warehouse looked more like a factory. I recall Nik Fish and Jumping Jack doing this duo act called Flow Motion. Southend also did a couple of tracks and they were a fantastic
act. Both our local acts showed UltraSonic how it’s done downunder. I highly rated the night and it was a good job by the promoter. UltaSonic were a world-class act. Check out the interview Sydney Rave History has done with Mallorca Lee from ULTRA-SONIC.

Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/Px9v6
Description: Get off the train at Clyde. Nearby was arched pedestrian walkway, over the main road, which led to a service station. Can’t remember exactly but Unwin St? JLT : It was one of the best times of our lives. The stage was setup in the corner of this mid-sized warehouse with 7mtr wide 5mtr high stacks of speakers either side of the DJ and behind lasers and wide screen projector. Due to the corner staging, everyone lined up on the dance floor diagonally. When MC Maestro D came out with Spellbound and they recorded #8 LIVE, it brought f’n the house down! This set is an all time favorite of mine, and if you remember it, you’ll agree it was one of the best times of our lives. Being a NYE Rave there were new comers but at the same time, this party is where I discovered how close the old skool Sydney Raving culture really was/is. One awesome thing I remember I really enjoyed about Rave Paragon was the rides in the beginning of the night.
