Tribal
Saturday, 4 July 1992
Production: Tribal productions
Venue: Two warehouses on Ossary St Mascot. Old warehouse in same street as Mixed Beans
DJs: Adrian Age (UK), Biz E, Matt G, Nick Fish, Sugar Ray, Sheen, Joe 90, Scot T v Crisis, Ming D v Abel, Nick TT v Vagas, Pee Wee v Jumping Jack, Free Bass v Phil Smart
Google Maps:
Description: catch phrase – Let the warriors dance. RP- This first party from the Tribal crew was a turning point for the scene to one that focused on hard, speed-driven industrial music. The party itself was held in two abandoned, condemned and very dirty warehouses near the airport, with all sorts of hazards indoors and out (holes in floors, lumps of concrete and metal to trip over, gantries to climb and dance on), but it was freakin’ awesome – with belting music playing well into the morning hours in two rooms. I believe there was a large bonfire outside outside in the wasteland between the fence and the warehouses, and the sun shining through grimy windows of the softer room in the morning was magic. Can’t remember any lasers and there was only simple lighting. At a guess one – two thousand punters in attendance. We had to clean brown gunge from ears and nostrils afterwards as the venue was so industrial. Excellent!

Description: Sydney’s First Free Rave. Outdoors. RP- I remember this being in a really nice outdoor amphitheater venue at Peats Ridge on the central coast. Good fun to get to, cranking music belting out of a system on the back of a semi flatbed, nice vibe and really pleasant morning cruising in the sunshine. Had to be a couple of thousand in attendance given it was freeee!

Ov Thee Earth Tribe
Saturday, 21 November 1992
Production: Tribal and Virtual Bass
Venue: Glebe wheat silos, Sommerville Rd Rozelle
DJs: Jumping Jack, Matt G, Wizard, Crisis, Abel, Sugar Ray, Nik Fish, Ming, Sheen, Vagas, Biz E, Free Bass, Scot T, Maestro, Beau, MD, TLM
Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/C83Tn
Description: For those of you who were lucky enough to go to an event held here you know what I mean when I say mind blowing venue!!! They had animation (from memory sonic the hedgehog) across a huge wall in one section & even a guy dressed up as Elvis & singing his songs in another! It was the biggest trip ever. Still to this day when I drive over the Glebe Island bridge I can’t believe I went to an illegal rave there. SPINOUT. (Thirteen) Ov the Earth Tribe the first party at the Silo’s was nothing short of amazing. Where you walked in upstairs it was the house room, then you walked to this staircase that took you down into this black plastic maze. Took a friend and i a while to navigate through it. Then downstairs there was the hardcore room and a chillout. You could pretty much wander around the whole place all night. They had a room filled with bean bag balls all over the floor and was lit up by fluro light. Seeing as this was the only lit room in the place it made every time you went in there so bright. They had a huge projection of Sonic the Hedgehog on a wall as you walked in.The production as far as the theme went was pretty awesome. Some friends rocked up who were going to another party and we begged them to go in to check it out. They were so glad they did. I saw people doing some really risky stuff that night. How people never got hurt at some these parties i will never know. I’ve often wondered if you could legally do a part there. It is the most amazing space for a party. RP-(I remember the massive Sonic projection very well), however adding that I heard from one of the Tribal team the morning after that all they needed to do was pay off a single security guard to get access to this awesome venue. Bizarre looking up at its massive structure at 9am on a sunny Sunday morning…

Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/LK1kq
Description: Apocalypse and Armageddon were both put on by Tribal Productions for the Australia Day Long Weekend. It was 1 Ticket = 2 Parties. One of the most mind blowing raves I went to. There were a stack of speakers as tall as the roof in the shape of a pyramid when you first walked in. I can’t remember it being a huge venue. I don’t know who the first DJ was, but he forgot his headphones and as a result, his mixing was a wee bit dodgy. The DJs were not elevated for once, they were right there on the dance floor. I was a very keen DJ trainspotter and I just remember that I was able to stand directly in front of Carl Cox for his whole set on 3 decks and watching him mix, it was incredible, not to just hear him but too watch his every move was incredible. He was going crazy on 3 decks, scratching and cutting and he knocked the needle off the record and everyone cheered. He just smiled and got on with it. The lights and overall effort by the promoter was shit, but the fact the promoter couldn’t be bothered to elevate the DJ made it an unforgettable party. The fact that Carl Cox also performed live made it a fantastic party.

DJs: DJ Ratty (U.K.), Matt G, John Ferris, Pee Wee, Delerious, Nik Fish, P’ Version, Nick TT, Jumpin’ Jack, Adrenalin
Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/jqRNN
Description: I won a ticket on the radio (2SER) and went to this party by myself. DJ Ratty played some wicked Drum and Bass and dark breakbeat, really different to the usual Happy Hard Sydney was used to at the time. It was the first time I had been to the venue and there was Graffiti all over the place. I had so much energy after the party I walked from Graffiti Hall of Fame in Mascot to the Recovery Party at Metropolis in North Sydney
